Sticking with nature, some call the Dordogne River the most beautiful in all of France, and it's not hard to see why. Its waters glide slowly through an awe-inspiring landscape, peppered with chateaux, walnut groves, and russet-roofed villages built into white limestone cliffs. It's the perfect territory for a tranquil canoe trip. Aquitaine is often referred to as a 'Cradle of the Arts' thanks to its abundance of prehistoric sights, such as the ancient cave paintings at Lascaux and the 1,000 castles dotted around the region.
