Hotels Lot-et-Garonne France Cheap Lot-et-Garonne Hotels Guide
Named after its two major rivers, the Lot and the Garonne, this eastern
department of Aquitaine lies in the heart of what was once known as Gascony
- Land of The Three Musketeers. Nowadays, it's home to a charming selection
of small cities that champion the cause of quintessential rural France. Its
capital, Agen, has a modest population of 32,000, but, with two millennia of
history to its name, there's plenty to keep visitors occupied. There's the
12th Century cathedral; the museum of archaeology; and the art museum,
featuring a collection of Goya paintings - to name but a few. It's also the
original site of the world famous D'Agen prunes, which were cultivated here
by monks in the early 16th century, and can still be found at the local
market. Slightly further north, the city of Villeneuve-sur-Lot is another
destination steeped in national heritage. It was once one of the largest
Bastide (fortress) towns in the South-West, which today, means plenty of
classic architecture for us tourists, especially around the central La
Fayette square. To conclude our mini-tour, we'll pay a visit to the
miniature city of Saralat. Home to just 9,000 people, it's somewhere that
won't take you long to get around, but then again, hustle-and-bustle is not
the way of life here; relaxing with a glass of wine in a small ash-coloured
cafe is more the scene. There are many other charming towns to visit here,
not to mention the beautiful countryside and spaghetti-esque pattern of
rivers, in this, a unique corner of the Land of Water. If you need to find where to stay in Lot-et-Garonne this is the place to book your hotel room.
