Named after its two major rivers, the Lot and the Garonne, this eastern department of Aquitaine lies in the heart of what was once known as Gascony - Land of The Three Musketeers. Nowadays, it's home to a charming selection of small cities that champion the cause of quintessential rural France. Its capital, Agen, has a modest population of 32,000, but, with two millennia of history to its name, there's plenty to keep visitors occupied. To conclude our mini-tour, we'll pay a visit to the miniature city of Saralat. Home to just 9,000 people, it's somewhere that won't take you long to get around, but then again, hustle-and-bustle is not the way of life here; relaxing with a glass of wine in a small ash-coloured cafe is more the scene.
