Hotels Aurillac France Cheap Aurillac Hotels GuideCantal's largest town is Aurillac. With an estimated population of 30,500,
it isn't huge, but then again not many places in Auvergne are! It's situated
to the west of the department, in the foothills of the Massif Central; one
of the region's most beautiful locations. Many come here for the renowned
International Street Theatre Festival, which has been held in the town since
1985. As you'd expect, it's a vibrant event, full of colourful characters
putting on shows for both locals and enchanted visitors. There's plenty to
experience here all year round though. On top of its beautiful location, set
amongst gentle green fields and meadows, there're some important historical
buildings resident in Cantal's capital. Perhaps the most impressive example
is Le Chateau Fort de la Ville (the Holy Castle Etienne). Often the subject
of many military attacks throughout the ages, it's been re-built several
times. Originally constructed in the 9th Century, it still stands proudly
today on high ground, giving a great view of the whole town. From here
you'll see its central and most recognisable landmark, the Saint Geraud
Church. Nearby is the old town, a beautifully maintained medieval area
complete with classic half-timbered houses and stone mansions with miniature
spires. Here and there are some relaxing gardens, full of the sounds of
splashing fountains and peaceful birdsong. With all these wonderful
surroundings, you might not even make that trek up the neighbouring
mountains after all! Finding where to stay in Aurillac has never been so simple. Choose and book any one of the cheap hotels in Aurillac to have a room ready for you when you arrive. Be it a day or a couple of weeks we have somewhere for you to rest your head.
