Hotels Cotes-D Armour France Accommodation Cotes-D Armour Hotels GuideOccupying the central position in Bretagne's stretch of the English Channel
between its neighbours Finistere and Ill-et-Vilaine, the department of
Cotes-d'Armor is the northernmost department in Bretagne. Its name, meaning
Land of the Sea, was given in recognition of the old Gaulish word for
France's entire north western peninsula - Amorica. The area is famous for
its spectacular coastline, which features the Pink Granite Coast and an
impressive section of the Emerald Coast. Both live up to their exotic names.
The strong waves that crash into the former have crafted its bizarrely
coloured stone into curious smooth shapes, reminiscent of a Martian cliff.
The Emerald Coast is so called due to the thick lining of green erica and
bracken that smother its protruding rocks, casting a luminous reflection in
the crystal clear waters. Inland, the verdant theme continues with 15,000
acres of pine forest stretching down to the mountains in the south. The
majority of towns and villages here are most becoming, scattered with
timber-framed houses and traditional, rustic pubs. Most have relatively low
populations, and the capital Saint-Brieuc (46,000) is easily the largest. If
the dense woodland and open rolling fields aren't enough of an escape, you
can always try the small island of Ile-de-Brehat. Although situated only 2
miles away from the mainland, its complete ban on cars makes its windswept
meadows and silent beaches seem like a world away. If you need to stay in Cotes-D Armour this is the place to book your hotel room. All of our rooms at good prices and so convenient for you.
