Pleasant and friendly environment where you can totally relax for a few days and start your journey through France. As you leave the port of Oisestreham you are within a short drive to the ancient and medieval town of Bayeax.
Most famous of course for the tapestries which date back to between 1066 and 1077. The Musee de la Tapiserie de Bayeux is where you can view the ancient work of art - the original piece measuring 69 metres by half a metre displaying 8 colours and 58 different scenes - an unbelievable work of art and viewed by thousands of people every year. The scenes tell the story of the conquest of William the Conquerer and it is thought the tapestry was created in Kent. Two other museums that should be on your list of things to do whilst you are here include - Musee Memorial de la Bataille de Normandie highlighting the battles of 1944, the inflictions upon humanity and across the road the Cemetery where 4144 soldiers rest their heads - a very poignant and deep visit.
Time for a visit to the Notre Dame Cathedral where you can contemplate and sit a while as you take in the awesome history here. After a while move on to lighter hearted activities and find a suitable cafe or restaurant where you can enjoy some of the finer things in life - gorgeous foods and cool drinks as you sit in the shade and watch French lifestyle glide by.
