For those who love sports there are some super stretches of countryside for walking, hiking, mountain biking and some free spirited horse back riding - all wonderful ways to explore the mountains of Puy-de-dome. The town of Thiers itself has a charm of its own and is a place you can enjoy a pleasant coffee as you watch French life glide by. There are a couple of places worth visiting - the Maison des Couteliers and the Musee de la Courtellarie de Thiers.
Beautiful towns and villages surround the whole area from Vollore-Ville, Bort-l'Etang to Maringues and a little further away the main town of Clermond-Ferrand. Here is where you will find a hub of activity with lots of shopping options and many festivals, events and exhibitions taking place throughout the year. Home to the SATCAR week long exhibition for automobiles and the Foire de Cournon Trade Fair. The most important festival that takes place here is the Short Film Festival where the world descends on the city and surrounding towns.
