Celebrations take place throughout the year with some rather interesting dates to take note of. The city is famous for its many landmarks and in the evening there are over 1000 lights that illuminate these and bring a magic and life to the skyline. On December 8th each year the residents all light a lantern and place it on their terraces, patios and balconies in tribute of the Festival of Lights - its quite a scene and entirely enchanting.

Antique lovers and treasure hunters should attend the Villeurbanne Flea Market where you are bound to find a rare object and ancient art pieces - bargaining begins at 6am on a Sunday. The Tupiniers Fair takes place in the Old Town every second weekend in the September and there's a major bric-a-brac fair taking place during the third weekend in June which fills the streets of the Old Town.

Wine lovers should take note of a rare and special date - 3rd November - this is the time when the special and young Beaujolais Nouveau is released - its just a short and pleasant drive from the city, through forests, pastures and granite peaks - a short but magical Beaujolais Nouveau Run.
