Salon de Provence was the hometown of Nostradamus and is close to Marseille and Aix-en-Provence. Today it is one of the busiest little towns in the region. You don't need to go much further than visit the main town for some good shopping, super sites and a pleasant and friendly social scene.
Chateau L'Emperie takes pride of place in the town and dates back to the 12th, 13th and 14th centuries - a pretty place to visit with gardens, courtyards and a charm that will enchant you.
Take a pleasant stroll down the Place Crousillat where you will find the popular Fontaine Moussue - a rather unique fountain that is covered by a thick mound of moss - the whole scene makes for a romantic picture in the evenings where you will find inviting cafe bars for that relaxed friendly drink.
Plenty of shopping opportunities in the town with boutiques, fashion stores, speciality gifts and food stores with the best in cheeses, olives, herbs, pates and wines.
Walk along Rue Nostradamus where you fill find the last residence of Nostradamus himself - he lived here for 19 years of his life - visit the museum here for a story of his life.
Musee Grevin in the old town is filled with war memorabilia and couples up as a wax museum also.
Stroll around the ancient streets and soak up the atmosphere. Day trips in to Marseille for a much wider choice in attractions is just a short drive away.
