Colmar is famous for one or two things - firstly it is one of the prettiest towns in the Alsace region and secondly Bartholdi comes from here - he designed the Statue of Liberty and you can see memoriam to him in the Museum Bartholdi on Rue des Marchands.
There are a number of other interesting museums in the town - Musee du Sapeur Pompier which is dedicated to firefighters. Musee Francais du Chemin de Fer houses a fine collection of SNCF trains - both steam and electric - that's the sons and fathers taken care of.
Ladies take time to stroll around the shops and perhaps stop for a leisurely lunch in one of the cafe bars or restaurants as you watch the world go by and soak up the Alsace atmosphere.
