The most famous and well viewed site of the town is the Chateau de Chinon - a large medieval fortress which overlooks the River Vienne - enjoy panoramic views from here. The site of a secret rendezvous between Charles VIII and Joan of Arc which resulted in the French Army defending the invasion of the English......now visiting the area in peace and enjoying the immense French countryside, chateaux and best wine region.
The Chinon grape being renowned for its rich red and velvety touch. Be sure to visit Caves Plouzeau for a look around the 12th century cellars and purchase some very reasonably priced reds and whites. Also Couly-Dutheil on Rue Diderot with a mostly red selection and the chance to tour the caves.
Visit the Musee de la Deviniere exhibiting collections from the middle ages and a rather unique display of plants with medicinal properties.
Gorgeous countryside and only a half hour drive to the dynamic and vibrant main city of Tours.
