The nearest town that has some semblance of life is Aurillac - filled with bars, restaurants and a super pedestrianised area that is lined with good quality shops - enjoy those fine French fashions and visit the speciality food stores where you can indulge in the meats, cheeses and wines of the region.
Walk along the river, head for the Rue de la Fontaine where you will find a pretty garden area and the central spot for meeting, greeting and generally mingling with pleasant folk.
The town has two rather interesting museums - one dedicated to Art and Archaeology and depicts the life of the village with paintings, photography, sculptures, household items and artefacts found in the area. The Science Museum is located in the left wing of the charming Castle of St Etienne and has themes that embrace the planet, volcanoes and the surrounding landscapes.
The Holy Castle of Etienne has seen many attacks over the centuries but now is a super spot to visit as you absorb times gone by.
Take time out for coffees, long leisurely lunches and peaceful walks.
