In ancient times Kings, Queens and dignitaries attended the baths here. Queen Victoria used to come here secretly and Napoleon's sister Pauline and his lover Josephine would come and bathe in the waters knowing the true value of their healing and regenerative powers.

Today the French Health Authority has formulated a system of state funded programmes for the retired residents of the country to attend the baths and benefit from their healing therapies.

A pleasant and serene time is to be had here where you can enjoy a number of gentle sports - walking in the surrounding countryside, how about a spot of cycling or some peaceful fishing. For those who want something even more energetic there's cross country ski-ing and there are water sports facilities close by.

The Tourist Information is an old Roman Temple and inside you will find a small museum with a collection of Roman sculptures. Across the lake from the town is the Abbey of Benedictine and the Mausoleum for several of the Princes of Savoie - dating back to the 12th century. Very interesting place.
