Hotels Nogent le Rotrou France Cheap Nogent le Rotrou Hotels GuideHalfway between Le Mans and the suburbs of Paris lies the small town of
Nogent-le-Rotrou, the former capital of the historic Perche region.
Historically, the area is known for its abundance of forests and apple
orchards, many of which survive today. Nogent, in particular, is luckily
enough to be situated at the heart of the Regional Nature Park, just a few
miles west of a huge belt of greenery. Arguably the most impressive sight in
town is the Chateau Saint John, a beautiful white-walled, blue-roofed castle
constructed in the 11th century. The chateau was the focus of much military
activity throughout its life, especially during the Hundred Years' War, when
it was attacked repeatedly by English forces. In 1428, its 35-metre-high
donjon was destroyed by Thomas of Salisbury, only to be rebuilt, then razed
again in 1449. Following extensive damage to both the castle and the town,
Le Rotrou was given a Renaissance makeover in the 1500s by the "Ladies of
Nogent" - Marguerite and Charlotte d'Armagnac. Its appearance has changed
remarkably little since. Nowadays, the town acts as the market centre for
the local area, with farmers coming from all over Eure-et-Loire to set up
stalls full of tantalising rustic produce. A look here and you will be able to find where to stay in Nogent le Rotrou. Make your choice of and of the cheap hotels in Nogent le Rotrou, click on any of the pictures for more info and to check on room availability.
