The department of Seine-Saint-Denis incorporates the capital's northern suburbs, collectively labelled "The Gates of Paris". Today, the name is largely due to the presence of the Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport, the busiest airport in the country. The department isn't just known for its convenient adjacence to Paris, however - the addition of the Stade de France late last millennium changed that. There're plenty of other things to see and do in the local vicinity too. Before the Charles de Gaulle opened for business, Paris's northern airport was at La Bourget. Today the terminals are still in operation, but it's also home to the Air and Space Museum, which dates from 1919... making it the oldest aeronautical collective in the world! Saint-Ouen is home to another similar record holder - the world's largest flea market, Les Puces de Paris. In fact, it's actually a series of markets all specialising in different areas. There's trendy 20th century Art Nouveau at the indoor Market Rosier, two floors of antiques at Marche Dauphine and some expensive rarities at the Jules Valles... to name but a few. The department's most enduring symbol, however, can be found back in the town of Saint-Denis, in the form of its famous Basilique...
