Hotels Argenteuil France Cheap Argenteuil Hotels GuideWhatever industrialisation Argenteuil suffers in the future, it will always
be the home of the bridges and waterways immortalised by France's
19th-century artist avant-garde. Now a northwestern Paris suburb, it was
once the obsession of the impressionists, in particular Claude Monet, who
moved here in 1871. For the next two decades or so, it underwent a profound
change - from rural country village to bustling town, due almost totally to
its new rail link with the capital. The impressionists captured this change;
and the sights featured in Monet's The Highway Bridge... and The Promenade
at Argenteuil can still be seen today, if a little more modernised.
Interestingly though, even contemporary Argenteuil remains characterised by
its buildings of old. They include the Notre Dame Abbey; La Cave Dimiere
(The Demiere Cellar), a 13th-century underground treasury, which has now
been transformed into a concert venue for lively jazz performances; and La
Chapelle St Jean, which dates from the 11th-century and is one of the
region's first examples of the Romanesque. Today, the town centre is served
by three stops on the Paris RER subway system (Argenteuil, Val d'argenteuil
and Gare de Grande Ceinture) as well as being handily situated just 25 miles
southwest of Charles de Gaulle Airport. Cheap hotels in Argenteuil have never been so simple to reserve online. All of our rooms at good prices and so convenient for you.
